"This is a great story that includes a lot of the monsters that we all know and love in a high school setting. It is cute, funny, action packed and sexy but I implore anyone who has seen the anime and hated it DON'T JUDGE THIS MANGA BY THE ANIME!!! The story is stronger, the dialogue is better and the characters are far less annoying!
The manga does not insult your intelligence but still provides an array of fan service to the benefit of the story instead of at the expense of it. Everything from epic beat downs, dramatic transformations, to steamy situations without the ridiculous over abundance of panty shots and idiotic banter. But that is not to imply that there aren't ANY panty shots.
Story wise it is very well written and will always leave you wanting more. One of the most likable things about the manga is the consistent character development between each other and independently. It is one of my favorite manga and I can't wait for the volumes to come."

Rosario+Vampire Vol 5 Akihisa Ikeda 9781421519074 Books Reviews
- I really should have probably reviewed the fourth and fifth volumes of this manga series together. After all, I had read them before, and so I knew what they each contained. They are, separate stories, yes, but they also combine to fill an important part of the narrative of this second season of the *R+V* manga. They form together the first battles against the main villain of the series, Fairy Tale.
As discussed in the review of the previous volume, Fairy Tale is a monster supremacist organization whose goal is to create a society where monsters rule and humans are dead, slaves, livestock, what not. They are, in fact, the exact opposites of the goals of the three Dark Lords who oppose them, and the school Tsukune and the others attend, Yokai Academy, which stands for peaceful coexistence between humans and monsters.
This volume centers on the group of friends in the News Club going on a summer vacation trip to the human world outside the barrier dimension that Yokai Academy is in. Once there, they run into a senpai, a former graduate of the school, who now works in the human world at an inn. The girl, San, is very close to her employer and best friend, Ms. Marin, who doesn't know of the secret of San being a monster.
Of course, a few other things need to be said about this story. First off, Fairy Tale shows their ugly heads, and they do battle with the News Club who are protecting San and the inn - not that she especially *needs* their protection in the end, but you need to read the story to find out about that. Secondly, this trip is part of the headmaster's efforts to help Tsukune, demoralized after the harsh words inner Moka gives him during her training regimen with him, see the amazing progress he truly has made.
Now, there are a few points to be made about some of the issues raised in this volume. First off, the headmaster seems to always know more than he lets on about what is going on in the outside world and in general, really. Second, we are being slowly transitioned to a more mature story. Last volume things got dark with the attempted kidnapping and forced wedding of Mizore and the introduction of Fairy Tale. This volume adds some new shades to that.
Namely, Fairy Tale is a vast, organized conspiracy the likes of which are, quite frankly, overwhelming to contemplate. While most of the rank and file are the typical, easy to beat mooks in fiction, there are heavy-hitters that will test the mettle of our band going forward.
For that matter, they are a terrorist group that has an ideology which, while fantastical due to the setting, can mirror some real-life terrorist groups. Whether the mangaka, Akihisa Ikeda, intended this or not, it is true. And it is frightening. These are folks who range from true believers to plain out sociopaths, just as in real life. The adventures in Season one and the first part of Season two, minus season one's arc villain, are child's play compared to these guys.
Secondly, the News Club is growing up and having to face questions of the future. What will they *do* when they graduate? There are no monster universities, so the characters must go to a human one or move into the work force in some way, whether in the human world or their own realms. The question of what will happen to friendships when one enters a new phase of life is one that is always with us, but for these characters, it is, perhaps, more serious. It's as if they are all foreign exchange students of different countries in the university of another, and don't know what will happen afterwards.
These themes are addressed, as is the frightening nature of Fairy Tale, in a way that is very idealistic and heartwarming. Yes, tough roads lay ahead emotionally and in terms of dangerous enemies, but so does joy, happiness, and friendship. I really appreciated how the mangaka made these themes and this story of darkness and growing up develop the way he has.
While this and the previous volume are separate stories, they do share the common thread of introducing Fairy Tale and the first battles against them, as well as beginning to explore these themes of growing up, as Mizore's story in volume four began this process. They were a one-two punch in this regard I greatly enjoyed.
For his handling of this content in a heartwarming and idealistic, and kickass, by the by, manner, I heartily recommend this volume.
Rating 5/5 Stars. - Loved the conclusion to the manga that got me introduced to Japanese comics and anime! Really great to see the awesome final encounter and battle develop as it went on through the chapters, and although some might say (with some reason to it) that it was a bit of a let down without a real final epic move finishing everything (won't spoil, it focuses more on plot and character than epic bloody finale).
I really hope we get a spinoff or at some future time a continuation to this series, maybe with a new name (R+V III?), it sets up future plot and character intrigue really well... I hope these guys and the author take a year or so off, go to the Caribbeans or something, have a great time off, then come back and continue this one or another awesome project - don't let me down, PLEASE!
If you don't know if you want to read or buy this you are CRAZY - buy this one now if you read all the ones before, if not read all of season II (and maybe 1 if you want the whole picture) and THEN get this one, you won't regret it. - This is a great story that includes a lot of the monsters that we all know and love in a high school setting. It is cute, funny, action packed and sexy but I implore anyone who has seen the anime and hated it DON'T JUDGE THIS MANGA BY THE ANIME!!! When I first got into the series just by watching the anime first. I actually ended up liking the series to the point where it sadly had to end with only 2 seasons and a total of 13 episodes in each season which are over all 26 episodes. Honestly I have to say even though It was "fan service" as we all might say due to comedy and some laughs and tons of running jokes about boobs, panties, and even sex. Despite all that I loved it still and it had tons of likeable characters such as Kurumu and Mizore.
Soon After i started reading the mangas cause I wanted to see what was the difference and as soon as I read it I soon discovered there was more action and more details on WHY most characters are what they are. And Ive read all the books there was until the very end. And after reading em all it was all the more reason why I loved Rosario Vampire. And it became one of my most favorite animes.
I even managed to get someone else into the series while i was at work, I know it wasn't necessary to buy these books when I already read them online. But I had couple reasons why I just bought them anyway. 1) was because I was reading a translated version off of Mangahere.com and I have come across a couples of pages where their conversations somewhat didnt make sense at all though I will give the translator credit for actually trying his/her very best. And 2) was because one of my co-workers which is the one I got him into liking it. Wanted to read and see for himself. Especially parts where he missed out on where Im sure he would wanna see for himself. So if you're just like me and you wanna read the mangas after seeing the series. Then BUY IT NOW!! You will not be sorry. It will answer most of your bothersome questions about some things you might of not understood from the episodes. And im sure it will be all the more reason to LOVE Rosario Vampire.
