Significant Cases in Criminal Procedure Criminal Justice Case Briefs Craig Hemmens Alan Thompson Lisa S Nored 9780199957910 Books Reviews

  • Used for college course - quick shipper
  • Excellent college book
  • "Significant Cases.." is frequently used at the university level and in paralegal training courses as it gives a good overview of very important Criminal Law cases and thankfully this Second Edition adds much of the latest case law that has come down from the Supreme Court since the previous edition back in 2004. And this points out the need for professors, students, Paralegals, and Legal Assistants to remain current and up-to-date on evolving case law and how legal standards can change rather quickly. The change on some Criminal Law points out how quickly out of date books can become. While much of what's in here on exclusions, probable cause, seizures, arrests, use of force, warrants, knock and announce, stop and frisk, searches, consents, plain view, surveillance, identification, right to counsel, Miranda, interrogation, entrapment, forfeiture, and civil liability is quite current it's likely some not only has changed but will change. If your instructor advises you to make sure to get this edition then trust me and DO IT! This is good for lay people looking for a better understanding of the law and is quite well written yet easy to understand. As a society we tend to think the law moves at a glacial pace but the truth is it evolves in fits and starts. When it comes to Criminal Law you HAVE to be current and on top of current rulings. I abide by the credo "Ignorance of the Law is no defense" and would add my own Collary "Failures to stay current in the study of Law is no defense!"
